Fort Belvior Local Area Information:

Few areas in the world can match the diversity of the Fort Belvoir area. The installation is minutes from Mount Vernon, Old Town Alexandria, the nation’s capital as well as so much more of America’s heritage. Alexandria’s Town Crier can usually be seen calling out special events and happenings in the historic port city of Alexandria. Few areas in the world can match the diversity of the area surrounding the nation’s capital, which is a short trip from Fort Belvoir. In metropolitan Washington, D.C., there are hundreds of historic sites and places to experience history and watch history in the making. Residents and tourists from around the world over can visit the White House, the U.S. Congress and Capitol, the headquarters of 14 federal cabinet departments and other federal agencies and bureaus. Almost every nation in the world has an embassy or diplomatic representative here. The nation’s capital also is one of the worl’d most beautiful cities. Maj. Pierre Charles L’Enfant, a member of Gen. George Washington’s Continental Army staff, laid out the District of Columbia in 1791, with broad avenues and traffic circles, allowing for monuments, memorials, pools and parks. There’s a world-class zoo, shopping for every taste and budget, hotels, theaters and restaurants featuring some of the world’s finest cuisine. Cultural activities from John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts to local jazz clubs and dinner theatres cater to every taste. Recreation at Atlantic Ocean beaches in Maryland, Virginia, Delaware and New Jersey are only a few hours away, as are the snow-covered slopes, campgrounds and lakes in the Blue Ridge Mountains of the Appalachian chain in Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia.

For more informaiton on Ft. Belvoir, please see the Fort Belvoir Post Guide Book 2010 (9 MB file size).

BRAC and Fort Belvoir:

The 2005 Base Realignment and Closure legislation was signed into law on Nov. 9, 2005. Under BRAC law, Fort Belvoir will have a net gain of approximately 19,300 military and civilian employees - the largest net gain of any DoD installation.
BRAC 2005 will nearly double the size of Fort Belvoir's workforce to a total population of 43,000 by September 15, 2011 - the federally mandated date by which BRAC must be completed.
The cost of construction for new facilities, renovated facilities, and infrastructure projects related to the implementation of BRAC at Fort Belvoir is forecasted to cost more than $4 billion.
With all of the BRAC projects now fully under construction, the future appearance of Fort Belvoir is beginning to take shape. The post will expand to include a total of three non-contiguous sites or substations in the region. Non-contiguous Fort Belvoir property includes Rivanna Station in Charlottesville, Va, the Fort Belvoir North Area in Springfield, Va., and a portion of the Mark Center in Alexandria, Va., that are now home to three BRAC realigned organizations at Fort Belvoir. They are the Defense Intelligence Agency's Joint-Use Intelligence Analysis Facility, the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency's New Campus East, and the multiple Defense Department agencies formerly in leased space in the National Capital Region, respectively. To support the increased workforce and mission requirements, the installation will invest $157 million into roads, utilities, communications and base support facilities while renovating existing space, building new buildings for incoming tenants, reconfiguring the installation, and implementing increased traffic demand management practices to mitigate traffic concerns. During 2010-2011, Gunston, Belvoir, and Pohick Roads will be expanded to four lanes to accommodate Belvoir's growth.

Property Description:

The Master-planned, Mountain Golf Community neighborhood features a collection of luxurious homes and views of the beautiful historical setting of the Jackson's Chase Golf Club (http://www.jacksonschase.com)

Located in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley, Jackson's Chase offers panoramic views of Signal Knob and surrounding mountains, and harbors a chapter of history's past. Enjoy a round of golf on the very ground where General Stonewall Jackson gave chase during the Civil War more than 130 years ago.

Situated on 300 acres in Front Royal, VA, and measuring over 6500 yards from the tips, Jackson's Chase has many holes that give you the opportunity to bust it from the tee. Still, there are other holes that cut through existing forest where safety is the better part of valor. It is only befitting when you play on this historical ground, that strategy will come into play for you just as it did for General Jackson.

This facility, located just minutes from Interstates 66 and 81, boasts excellent fairway conditions and down-home friendly atmosphere.
